For ages, people have debated whether a person should follow their desired dream, even without financial security, or if they should be realistic and follow a monetary path. In reality, there are more “jobs that found their employees” than “people who could find their dream jobs.” This essay is going to discuss why people should choose their major based on the jobs they can find and what the best scenarios for them to follow their dreams are.
On the one hand, it is crucial to be employed after graduating, as you need to make a living to provide yourself with all your basic needs. In other words, making money is the sin qua non of the survival stage. Therefore, they need to make sure that they can get a job as soon as possible after finishing their education. This is when selecting a major to pursue becomes of utmost importance. Young adults should do pre-research about the potential market force’s demands and acquire the relevant certificate and education to improve their resume. If the market size of their wanted jobs was only 100,000 available seats and there were 500,000 students in this field going to graduate at the same time, what would be the chance for the students to get their dream jobs? Obviously, the chance is pretty slim; hence, it is undoubtedly argued that they should pursue education according to the labor market.
However, life is short, and if we could not follow our dreams, life would feel unsatisfying. This unhappiness would only grow stronger and make our current working environment a “living hell”. Instead of joyfully waking up to work every day, we would reluctantly go to the workplace and put on a sad face, which would create a profound impact on both the company and ourselves. Everyone around us will be losing their positive energy as they are facing negative energy like ourselves, and these people include both our colleagues and clients. But does this mean we must follow our hearts and ignore the “make-a-living” aspect? Of course, the answer is no. We should balance out these needs; we have to make sure all the basic needs are well prepared before achieving our dreams. This does not mean you should only try your dream until you become rich or gain financial freedom. You can still be in survival mode and follow your dream, like the rap star Eminem, who became very successful with nothing in his hands. He is a clear role model for someone who lives on basic terms and dedicates his free time to his dream.
In conclusion, people need to have the essential elements of their lives, such as jobs and income, in place. However, this does not mean we all must follow the path of becoming rich or gaining financial freedom; instead, we should balance this aspect with our dreams and try to follow our hearts in any free time we get. This would make our lives more meaningful.
